About us
In 2005 we (that’s Dave and Lea, two of the three founding partners in Unchained) moved to an area of London we didn’t know well. One of the first things we did was search for a local butcher, greengrocer and neighbourhood shop. And because we’ve always been a bit geeky, we scoured the internet for lovely hidden gems in our new neighbourhood.
There had to be an online guide to London’s independent shops right? Well there was nothing.
So the three of us, that includes Pedro (the third partner) built it, called it Unchained and started telling the world about it.
It didn’t talk long before we realised that running a guide was only a small part of what we could achieve - we also wanted to work with these shops, to help level the playing field between them and the big chainstores they struggle to compete with. Then we started to see that other cities needed guides too and launched our Unchained Guide to New York a few months later (other cities are coming soon, so watch this space).
